lyrics

We were walking through these Venice Beach streets. I'd lost my job that week and my baby wouldn't talk to me. I look over her shoulder at her telephone screen. She's talking to her ex lover, I'm just trying to see if they're arranging to meet. Could she do that to me? If they're arranging to meet, I'll show my baby just what kind of man I can be. I'm just killing time. My baby don't know that I'm just killing time. These days, she just sits and stares at me from across the table. Even when I'm doing everything right, it doesn't make up for her lack of temper. I'm spending every night getting drunk on her couch, trying to keep myself together. I'm spending ever night getting drunk on her couch, knowing there's got to be somebody better. Tonight, we're driving till that gaslight sings us to sleep. Tonight, we're driving 'til the sunlight embraces the street. Left that mistake that's by the lake to sad down to the steel city, till we're running on empty. Now we're running on empty.
